Purpose of processing

The initially pseudo-anonymized data[1] is collected to evaluate the performance, usability and usage patterns of a graph visualization integrated into the Open Knowledge Maps search platform. At the end of the one-month experiment time window and before further processing, the data is completely anonymized. The data and the resulting results will be used for scientific purposes (including scientific publication), teaching and improving the visualization and similar services that promote the discoverability of scientific knowledge for the production of new knowledge and its use in teaching.

[1] In the case of pseudonymization, the identification feature of the user is replaced by a code in order to exclude or substantially hinder the determination of the identity.

Collected data is stored in data centers in Germany and Austria. There is no disclosure, or order processing by third parties.

How long is the data stored?

The storage takes place until the exhaustion of the processing purpose, unless in addition there are legal or (contractual) storage requirements or (predominantly) legitimate interests which justify a longer storage (e.g. for the assertion or defense of legal claims).

The processing of this information is based on our legitimate interest in the purposes for data collection mentioned above. We are not using this data to identify you personally. The recipient of the data is only the responsible office. The information is used for example to fix errors, to detect hacker attacks or for legitimate investigations of government bodies.

Access logs are deleted after 30 days in case of regular access behaviour. Access data for debugging ("error logs") are deleted after 90 days, security-relevant access data ("security logs) are deleted after 180 days. Access data is only collected in an error log in case an error occurs. Access data is only collected in a security log in case when an improper use of our website is suspected.

Encrypted connection

We use an encrypted connection to establish a connection between your browser and our website & web services. Email communications with us

If you click on our dedicated contact buttons: info@openknowledgemaps.org or any other contact buttons ("pre-register via email", email icon) your email software will be activated and invites you to send your comments to a specific functional mailbox. When you send such a message, your personal data is collected only to the extent necessary to reply. If you use your email software to send us a message, please be aware that the message you send is not encrypted by default. If you want to send us personal information via email we advise you to always encrypt your messages beforehand.

Routine erasure and blocking of personal data

Use of Google Hosted Libraries

On our website we use Google Hosted Libraries a Content Distribution Network (CDN) of the company Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA). A CDN ensures that all program libraries and style sheets (CSS) that are necessary for the correct display of our website and services are being loaded as efficiently and securely as possible, independent of their location. The use of google hosted libraries does not require logging into to google services and google hosted libraries does not save any cookies on your computer.
