VisConnect is a new service by Open Knowledge Maps that enables evidence-based research assessment and strategic decision-making. Tailored to institutional needs, this tool provides rich overviews of researchers that go beyond traditional metrics. Use the power of AI-driven visualisations to evaluate scholarly contributions holistically and efficiently.
Responsible research assessment: Visualises contributions across research, teaching, and open science.
Beyond publications: Includes datasets, software, policy papers, and other non-traditional outputs.
AI-driven process support: Automatically integrates and analyses data from multiple trusted sources.
Fair and transparent: Built to support equitable evaluation, free of black-box scoring.
By integrating data from sources such as ORCID, Crossref, Altmetric, and BASE, VisConnect creates an interactive visual profile of a researcher’s work - offering a comprehensive perspective that aligns with responsible research assessment initiatives like DORA and CoARA.
VisConnect was developed together with IT:U Interdisciplinary Transformation University Austria and is specifically designed for:

Topical Overview at a Glance: Get a visual map of a researcher’s body of work organised by topic. Each area represents a cluster of related outputs, making it easy to identify key themes, disciplinary foci, and contributions to open science.
Scalable by Impact Metrics: Tailor the map by scaling topical areas and outputs by number of documents, citations, social media mentions, or references outside academia (e.g. mentions in policy documents or news articles). This highlights high-impact areas and the reception of the research by different audiences.
Researcher Biography & Career Highlights: Access structured information about the researcher’s education, employment history, teaching, funding, and awards - all from a single tab for a comprehensive overview.
Configurable Metrics Overview: Review traditional and alternative metrics including citation counts, academic age, social media attention, and references outside academia. Teaching and mentorship metrics can also be added on demand.
